Best of 2011

2011 was a spectacular year for me: I gained new clients, had bigger gigs, used more elaborate lighting, and took a lot of architecture and product shots. It was so great, that I decided to look back at some of my favorite shots and compile a Best of the Year summary.

I look forward to your comments on some of your favorites too.

A special opportunity for a few Photographers

Hey fellow Photographers!   Are you looking for a studio that you would be proud to show your clients?  I am looking for 4 to 5 photographers that are looking to share the rental of my current studio space.  It is just under 2000 square feet, on the 5th floor of a Historic building in the heart of the Exchange district, and it’s equipped with a Kitchen, Stove, Fridge, and full washroom facilities.   There is also a small storage space available for your gear.

What about an office space? This floor also has a gorgeous front office, overlooking the Burton Cummings Theatre with 3 huge windows (see last image). I am looking to rent this out to anyone who is looking for a new office…photographer or not.

Both the office and the studio are available for rent JANUARY 1st!

If you are interested in this exciting opportunity or know anyone who would be, please feel free to contact me at info@studio448.com or at 946-0590 for more info or to arrange a tour.

ONYX Financial Group

I had the opportunity to photograph the team for ONYX Financial Group and it turned out to be one of the most lively shoots I’ve done in a long time. The shoot lasted two days and the boisterous personalities from this team were positive the entire time.

ONYX had consultant Chris Venn from Venn Advisory in London, Ontario working with us on the project. He was able to give me valuable insight on what the overall objectives were, from both formal Executive Headshots to Environmental photographs. He gave me direction on what he was looking for and I took that information and ran with it….this is what we came up with:

the Barkman Block Party

After a killer Summer with the Barkman crew, they decided to have a Party on the roof top of the Winnipeg Art Gallery. The party wasn’t to celebrate all of the successful shoots we’ve done recently, but rather to celebrate and showcase their newest product line.

The product is called kurve which is part of their GFRC “Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete” line.  The furnishing products that they are making with this material are out of this world in aesthetics and functionality…as they say, each kurve GFRC product, “kurves in all the right places.”

Stuart Olson Dominion Construction Ltd – Assiniboine Park Zoo’s “Journey To Churchill” Polar Bear Exhibit

I was able to go behind the scenes for Stuart Olson Dominion’s current project:  the new “Journey To Churchill” Polar Bear Exhibit at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.  This shoot was exceptional for me because I got to fulfill one of my childhood dreams, which involves me going into the actual bear exhibit!  I have always wanted to see and feel what it would be like in there, from climbing on their life like environmental structures; stepping into the cages where they are transported, held and where they sleep; and of course, riding and feeding a bear.
To my delight, I was able to do almost everything on the list with the exception of riding or feeding the bears because of obvious safety reasons, not to mention, the bears haven’t arrived yet.
All in all, this was one of the most thrilling shoots that I’ve done in a long time and it reminded me how much I love my job.

Check out the makings of the bears’ new home below:
